Update on Field Lighting Project

After speaking with Frischertz Electric – the company constructing the field lights – the project dates have been reset to take place “sometime between April 7th – April 16.” League management will be in touch with team managers if there is any reason to move games to accommodate the construction. Thank to everyone for your patience in waiting for the project to be completed. WE KNOW HOW YOU ALL FEEL!!!

Players of the Week

Stand-out performances in the first week of the new seasons were turned in by Paul Messina with FC Envy (Rec – Saturday) and Jen Kritch of Faubourg St. John (Comp. 2 – Wednesday).

Though FC Envy could not pull out the victory, Paul had an UNBELIEVABLE second half against LA United as he tried to undo the damage allowed by a lesser goalkeeper in the first half (who coincidentally looked a lot like league referee, Grant Guthrie). Honestly, the only difference between Paul and barricading the goal with concrete blocks was Paul’s catching and passing after the saves – just ask LA United, who also played very well, but just could not unlock the Paul-wall!

Jen Kritch had a standout performance on Wednesday, as her three goals (and relentless tackling) propelled Faubourg St. John to an uncharacteristic 6-goal margin of victory! Congrats to all FStJ for a great game!

In an unrelated story: Steroid Testing will be randomly selected and take place at some point in mid-season.

Last Second Wonderstrike!

A Ben Sherville free-kick in the final seconds of their Saturday afternoon clash with Jen Gold’s Team sent Crescent City Stars to victory. With the win in their first game, the Crescent City Stars find themselves in third place in the overall standings – trailing only The Orphans & LA United by way of goal differential and total scored. Congratulations to Ben and the Crescent City Stars on their first match!

The Naming of The Bowl

The official trophy of the Crescent City Soccer League needs a name! We want to give all of the player-participants a chance to put in their recommendations. The trophy is a large silver bowl, which is mounted on a small wooden platform. Pictures are available in the “Photos” section of the webpage. Each champion will get to hoist the bowl at the end of the season, with the winner of the Competitive 1 division having their name engraved on the bowl and forever remain a part of Crescent City Soccer history! Please, submit suggestions for the naming of the Bowl via email…..or at the table on league nights! Act fast, as we will select a name for the trophy by this season’s end.

All CCS Players can use their Player Card to get $4.50 Pitchers/Wings at Fat Harrys!!

The …… Bowl

Crescent City Soccer’s new official trophy will be adorned with the names of each team who win the top league…not to worry, though – there are some cool prizes in the works for all Champions! Though the league has not yet decided if league champions will take the bowl home to display during the period of their reign at the top (and return for the ensuing champion) or if the trophy will simply be on display at league matches, it is sure to be a coveted prize that will be tough to get your hand upon!

Lighting Project Dates Set

The parts are on the boat. Construction is set to being in March, and the lights will be completed “as early as March 26…as late as April 5.” This marks the end of the portable light tower era for Crescent City Soccer. “We will not really miss the towers all that much. They are rather heavy and quite a nuisance to move manually….however, the heat from the exhaust pipes will be missed next winter season,” says referee Grant Guthrie.

Player of the Week

The Wednesday League player of the week award has been given to Nick Dempsey of Team Ronnies for the week of February 23rd. After much deliberation, Nick was given this week’s award on account of his constant hustle and amusing commentary on the field. Congratulations, Nick! Honorable mentions go to John Harris (Ipswich) and Linda Kristin Haram (Ragnarock). Congrats!

March League Almost Full!

The Monday (Competitive 1), Wednesday (Competitive 2), and Saturday (Recreational) leagues are almost filled. There are two spots left in the Monday and Wednesday night leagues and three remaining in the Saturday league. If you or anyone you know want in, ACT FAST!
