The Freret Neighborhood Need Us!

“The New Freret” Organization need our help to attain a grant for the progress of the neighborhood, and we can make it happen!

The group of area businesses and supporters with the goal of creating yet another amazing alcove of New Orleans is on the verge of winning a national contest which would provide a grant-in-aid toward realizing the dream.

Currently, The New Freret are the front-runners on the list of 10 finalists, however, two groups (from Erie, PA & Los Angeles, CA) are narrowing the gap and now running a close second and third. Anyone may vote for a finalist, and multiple votes can be cast by a single individual as long as it is no more than one every 24-hour period. The closing of the gap means that the other two groups have found repeat supporters, so The New Freret need to pick it up if we are going to receive the grant!!!

Crescent City Soccer can make it possible! The voting for finalists lasts only from August 10 – September 9. We are asking each of you to tell your teams, please go and vote (hopefully once daily!), and let’s be the push to the finish as the contest approaches the final turn.

It will be a major boost to the area around the field, and New Orleans, The New Freret, the Leagues and all those living in the Freret area will appreciate so much!

Please visit MarkhamMarkOfDistinction.com, select “Vote for a Finalist,” and let’s make it happen…daily!

League Card Overhaul!

The League Player Cards are currently undergoing a major facelift….

The initial campaign was designed as a trial program and to introduce the concept to league participants. The feedback was positive, so it is time amp it up a bit! With the addition of the website and a few new competition levels, League Management have decided to begin a more formal campaign. The aim is now to establish a long-term, ardent relationship between league participants and local merchants. Many new business-participants will be added to include  discounts in many areas of everyday life.

Look for updates to the line-up on the League Card page (access by clicking the Card icon on the Home Page).Feel free to suggest a business or service that you might like to see on the card, and we will speak to them!

Referee Juggling!

Addition of 4th Competitive Level has produced many quality match-ups.

The addition of the Competitive 4 League has enabled team ability level to be better matched and the resulting competitions have been outstanding! Though we are early in the season, each league has turned in some shocking results including past champions and finalists being taken to the wire on a regular basis and even losing to teams who hold in mid/low spots in the standings.

It is certainly exciting to watch, as well. Celebration rates are up by at least 60% from last year and the requests to reserve practice time at the field have never been higher. The referees and league management have thoroughly enjoyed the competitions so far this season, and the excitement seems to be fortified by the amount of supporters in the stands, as of late. Each League-night has produced at least one match with spectator-filled bleachers – many of whom are not players!

Crescent City Soccer hope everyone is enjoying the leagues as much as it would seem! If you find yourself with some extra time, come out and watch a match or two – it is sure to be exciting. As we approach the mid-point in the season, there is one important fact to note about the addition of the 4th Competitive level:

Most teams are in contention for a championship!

Saturday Excitement!

This past Saturday saw some intense action including the largest comeback ever to be recorded in Crescent City Soccer history.  Saturday kicked off at 8am with a strong Orphans side falling to a powerhouse Craigslist F.C. managed by player/coach Nathaniel Cooper. The Orphans who normally are an incredibly strong team were without their goal scoring trio: Paul Napolitino, Justine Buzzel and Jen Kritch.

The following game featured Tamra Schiroky who made her Crescent City Soccer debut and brought the “heat” on what seemed to be an already unbearably hot day. Tamra buried three blazing goals in the back of the net to help the Uptowners cruise to an easy victory over a talented AMA F.C.

We saved the best for last, in an early season match up with playoff implications we saw history unfold as the Nola Hotspurs faced off against LA United.  LA United has consistently been a top of the table team in the Crescent City Standings since there inception to the league last winter. The Nola Hotspurs who evolved from an underachieving JEN GOLD Team had lots to prove in an effort to solidfy themselves as a top tier squad. LA United got in early on the action and scored relatively easily throughout the first half. United was up 6-3 and it looked as though the game was a lock  going into the last 8 minutes of the game.. Nola Hotspurs were not to be counted out and mounted an offensive attack that was unmatched by a sagging United defense. The Hotspurs Jimmer Ryan buried 2 goals in the lower left corner of the net with 7 and 5 minutes remaining. They followed that up 1 minute later with an intercepted pass taken the other way and driven past a previously unfalliable Mark French. LA Uniteds lead was cut to none and the pressure was on. Within seconds of the next kickoff Hotspurs gained position breezed through the defense and buried the game winning goal to conclude what had to be one of the most remarkable and quickest comebacks in the history of 6v6 soccer.
