Krewe du Zoo…

It was a monumental evening for one of the most familiar faces in Crescent City Soccer. With a 5-1 victory, Krewe du Zoo secured top-spot in the Competitive III (Wed.) League’s Left Division.

“League Leaders” is a title that has eluded the Krewe (who normally play the role of a spoiler) since joining the league. They have seen many ups and downs, many player transactions and have contributed many extra-enthusiastic performances. At one time, the could have even given quite a vivid description as to the taste of the barrel’s bottom…but not any longer! They have climbed from the barrel, onto the mountain and scaled the rocky trail to find themselves at the show-capped pinnacle! (and it has been a lot of fun to watch!)

Crescent City Soccer would like to congratulate and thank Krewe du Zoo for the perseverance and dedication. We hope that the view is nice, the air up there is clean and fresh-smelling and that your stay at the top of the mountain be a long one!

Come and see Krewe du Zoo defend their position next Wednesday night against the Right Division leaders and current league championship holders, Kilmarnock.

Opening Day of Recreational Coed has some Nail Biters!

The first day of a new season is always an interesting one, teams are usually coming together for the first time with little or no practice. Everyone is a little anxious, a little scared, nobody wants to be the first to make a mistake. You could tell that a lot of newcomers had butterflies in their stomachs as they took their first steps on the Crescent City Soccer pitch. An outside observer would anticipate a slow paced, “careful” game. These matches were anything but, in the opening day of the Sunday Coed league almost every game went down to the last seconds. An exciting day for everyone involved the competitive nature of the Coed league drew large and rambunctious crowds who cheered their teams on to last minute victory or eternal agony.

Newcomers  Hooligans F.C.  who sported a full head to toe Barcelona kit  faced off against a revamped Thundercats team. The Thundercats made the addition of a Crescent City All Star “Piki” in the offseason, which proved to be a wise move. The Hooligans were able to get to an early 1-0 lead and held it through the first half. The Thundercats roared back with an early goal in the 2nd. As the final minutes came to an end Chris of the Hooligans was able to breakaway from the pack and got a 1v1 with the thundercat keeper. Chris calmy placed the ball in the back of the net to solidify the Hooligans first win in the new league.

Crescent City Connection went down early to a surging Misfits squad. The Misfits were able to capitalize two C.C. Connection  miscues which put the Misfits up 2-0  four minutes into the game. The Connection looked as though they were missing a piece to their puzzle, something wasn’t right. C.C. Connection looked as though they were in for a shalacking, when all of a suddenspotted in the distance, C.C. Connection “Moral Junkee” Mike Durkee came trotting in. Mike instantly lifted the spirits of his fellow Connections and began the comeback. The Misfits were unable to contain the re energized Connection as they had found the missing piece to the puzzle, and with all their pieces in place they were able to take a 4-3 lead going into the final minute of the game. As the last minute ticked away a costly keeper hand ball outside the box gave the Misfits a chance at redemption. The misfits played a quick ball to the top of the box that was fired quickly into the lower left corner to tie the game at 4. This in division game yielded each team a valuable point in what looks to be a very evenly matched field.

The last contest of the day, saw last season basement dwelling Cougars vs recently crowned Coed Champion Stars. The Cougars managed by player/coach Jason Scott were able to claw away at the Stars as they pounced to a first half 5-0 lead. But the Stars who had trouble finding their chemistry in the first half, finally found the formation that fitted. With Eric Stupan in the net, the Stars were able to mount a comeback and got 4 goals. But as the final whistle blew the Stars were one short, and the Cougars enjoyed their first victory in Crescent City history!!!!
